Want to make something quick and easy but not sure what? Well if you know the basics for crocheting, I would suggest checking these out. Simple mini basket and egg, each took me maybe 30 mins, not bad for first time making these. After making several, they will only take you minutes to whip up.

Small basket with a few candies in it

This little basket is big enough to fit a few candies in it, perfect for anyone as a small gift for Easter. I was browsing Pinterest (dangerous site, too many awesome things!) and came across a crocheting patter to make a small basket. I personally am not good at reading crochet tutorials, I usually have to have a visual, but with this pattern I found it very easy to understand. All you need is to know some basic crochet stitches, a hook and yarn. A lady named Jennifer from craftsanity.com wrote a tutorial on how to make this basket, if you’d like click HERE to be taken right to the site for the easy tutorial.

Small basket tutorial:

Yarn: Any yarn…I used Peaches and Creme yarn
Hook: any hook that is required for the yarn used…I used U.S. H/8 (5mm)

Abbreviations:

ch: chain
hdc: half double crochet
sl st: slip stitch
sts: stitches
st: stitch

Begin with a magic loop

Round 1: Make six 6 hdc stitches into ring. Sl st into first st to complete round. (6 sts.) Ch. 1.
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around. Sl st into first st to complete round. (12 sts.) Ch. 1.
Round 3: 2 hdc in each st around. Sl st into first st to complete round. (24 sts.) Ch. 1.
Round 4: * Hdc in next two sts, 2 hdc in next st. * Repeat from * to * around. Sl st into first st to complete round. (32 sts.) Ch. 1.
Round 5: Hdc in each stitch around, working only in the back the back half of the sts from previous round. This will create a ridge along the bottom edge of the basket. Sl st into first st to complete round. (32 sts.) Ch. 1.
Rounds 6-8: Hdc in each st around. Sl st in 1st st. of round. Ch 1.

Handle
After completing round 8 don’t cut the yarn, Ch 1 and do 3 hdc, then ch 1 & turn. Repeat * 3 hdc, ch1 & turn * 15 times to create handle. Do not chain 1 at the end of the final row. Just cut the yarn leaving a 12” tail and fasten off. Use a yarn needle to whip stitch the handle to the basket.

Not perfect for first time, but everyone loves them especially my son!

Next is a cute stuffed Easter egg, this can be filled with stuffing, beans or whatever you would like to stuff it with. I personally used stuffing, it still gets tossed around and gets some distance lol. T absolutely loves these eggs, they are the perfect size for his hands. These would make great little gifts to add to a child’s Easter basket, they could use as bean bags or whatever their imagination will let them do. Again, this pattern was pretty easy to understand, this pattern requires you to work in a continuous round, normally I have issues with that, but for some reason with this tutorial I had NO problem. The tutorial comes from a lady named Kara from Petals to Picots and can be found HERE, it will take you to the tutorial.

Easter Egg tutorial:

Round 1: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, rep from * around — 10 sts.
Round 2: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, rep from * around — 12 sts.
Round 3: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, rep from * around — 14 sts.
Round 4: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 6 sts, rep from * around — 16 sts.
Round 5: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts, rep from * around — 18 sts.
Round 6: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts, rep from * around — 20 sts.
Round 7: *Work 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, rep from * around — 22 sts.
Round 8: Work 1 sc in each st around — 22 sts.
Round 9: *sc 2 tog, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, rep from * 1 more time — 18 sts.
Round 10: *sc 2 tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, rep from * 1 more time — 14 sts.

**At this point, fill with stuffing to desired density, but take care not to overstuff.**

Round 11: *sc 2 tog, 1 sc in next st, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, rep from * 1 more time — 10 sts.
Round 12: sc 2 tog around — 5 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a 6-in. tail. Use tail to weave in and out of sts from Round 12, pull to close up circle, weave in end. This is the bottom of the egg.

    • That’s awesome! I hope she has fun making these. Just hope she doesn’t get frustrated the first time making these. Cause, sometimes they can be confusing at first for some people. Like I tell my friends lots and lots of practice, I am self taught, learned thru practice and lots of YouTube tutorials 🙂
